Stuart-Sponsored Dementia Support Bill Signed Into Law

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – House Bill 4388, co-sponsored by State Representative Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, which mandates enhanced training for first responders in assisting Illinoisans suffering from Alzheimers and other forms of dementia, was signed into law by Gov. JB Pritzker on May 13, 2022. The new law requires that EMS personnel complete at least one hour of training related to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Rep. Stuart was the bill’s Chief Co-Sponsor in the House.

WAUKEGAN, Ill. – State Representative Rita Mayfield, D-Waukegan, expressed concern after a hospital in her district received a failing grade on patient safety from Leapfrog, a non-government watchdog. Vista Medical Center East, on Sheridan Rd. in Waukegan, was the only hospital in Illinois to receive a grade of ‘F’.
