PEORIA, Ill. – With back to school just around the corner, state Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth, D-Peoria and state Sen. David Koehler, D-Peoria, are inviting families out to Glen Oak Park this Tuesday, July 11 for free school supplies, physicals, snacks and summer fun at the annual One Peoria event.

“We’re less than a month away from the start of a new school year, and this event helps families pick up the supplies they need while giving children an opportunity to enjoy a classic fun fair setting,” Gordon-Booth said. “I appreciate the support and donations from our community partners who want to help out families and not force parents to open up their wallet. Supplies are limited, so we’re encouraging families to arrive early.”

Aimed toward kids and families, One Peoria will offer area children an opportunity to enjoy carnival treats – including popcorn, snow cones and cotton candy – as well as bounce houses, an obstacle course and other fun activities. Free backpacks and school supplies will be available, with priority given to the first 200 children. Solvera Health will offer school physicals for attendees, while Meridian will help families order free school uniforms.

Additional partners for the event include the Peoria Park District, Elite Community Outreach, Peoria Friendship House, Art Inc., Black Business Alliance, YANI Collective, Center for Prevention and Abuse, MAY I Community Outreach, Product of the Project and Illinois Central College.
