CHICAGO – State Rep. Sonya M. Harper, D-Chicago, released this statement following the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court which ended affirmative action in higher education admissions:

“Once again, the justices of this Court have handed down a decision that reverses decades of precedent and progress, sets back vulnerable and historically disadvantaged communities and reinforces America’s sad and shameful history of discrimination and bigotry.

“Racism insincerely disguised as justice is still racism and is not, and will never be, just.

“By joining together and speaking together, we can send a message that change is coming whether those who are stuck in the past want it to or not. We can tell them we won’t be silenced; we won’t be intimidated and we won’t be stopped.

“This fight is not over. The movement toward equal rights in America has faced more than its share of setbacks, and we’re still here. We aren’t giving up or going away. This will not stand. We won’t let it.”
