BELLEVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, is welcoming representatives from the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office to help area residents claim lost funds at an I-CASH event scheduled for Tuesday, July 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Belleville City Hall.

“We want to help people access money they are rightfully owed and may not realize even exists,” Hoffman said. “This event is an opportunity to talk with a member of the Treasurer’s office who can help people search for unclaimed property and walk them through the process to receive it.”

Residents will be able to see if any of the $3.5 billion in unclaimed funds held by the Treasurer belongs to them. By providing proper identification and filling out necessary paperwork in a claim process, original owners and heirs are able to receive their property back at no cost. Unclaimed property can come from old bank accounts, stock dividends, insurance payments, utility deposits and other accounts that have gone dormant for a period of time.
