Rep. Hernandez Measure Advancing the Education of English-Second-Language Students Now Law

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A new law from state Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, will increase educational opportunities for new Americans by recognizing the accomplishments of students who learn English as a second language. Non-native speakers who excel at learning English as a second language can now qualify for the State Seal of Biliteracy, which can help them in the college application process and meet requirements toward a degree.

GURNEE, Ill. – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, met with longtime business owners Dan Lucy, Dave Lucy and Rita Lucy at Lucy’s Appliances in Zion on Wednesday. Lucy’s Appliances was first opened in 1935 by Delbert Lucy and his son Marion Lucy as a general feed store. 85 years later, the Lucy family business has grown to be one of the largest single appliance stores in the state.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – State Rep. Mark Walker, D-Arlington Heights, is inviting residents to a town hall on clean energy and the Illinois Clean Energy Jobs Act (CEJA) on Wednesday, Sept. 5 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, located at 500 N.
