Welch Fights to Protect Student Borrowers from Predatory Lenders, Overrides Rauner’s Veto
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Committed to ensuring student borrowers are not misled by predatory lenders, state Rep. Emanuel “Chris” Welch, D-Hillside, voted to override Gov. Bruce Rauner’s veto of legislation that establishes clear rules and regulations for student loan servicers in Illinois.
Walsh Stands Up Against Rauner’s Corporate Agenda, Bans State Investment in Companies Hiding Profits Offshores
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – In response to multi-million dollar corporations purposely hiding funds overseas to avoid paying state taxes, state Rep. Larry Walsh, D-Elwood, recently voted to enact a new law forbidding the state to contract with or invest in these corporations that are failing to pay their fair share. While Gov. Bruce Rauner sided with corporations that skirt the law to pad their profits, Walsh worked with Republicans and Democrats to make this measure law and ensure the state is investing in businesses that invest in Illinois.
Kifowit-Backed Student Loan Bill of Rights Becomes Law
AURORA, Ill. – A measure cosponsored by state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, to protect students from predatory lending will now become law following the successful, bipartisan override of the Gov. Bruce Rauner’s veto of the proposal.
