CHICAGO – To help bring joy to children across her district for the holiday season, state Rep. Sonya Harper, D-Chicago, is hosting a “Toys for Tots” drive and encouraging local residents to donate new and unused toys between Nov. 27 and Dec. 18 at her constituent services office to be given to children in need.

“I want to see to it that as many children as possible find happiness with a gift to their liking this year,” Harper said. “Every donation has the potential to make a huge impact, offering children pure joy during the holidays, especially those who wouldn’t otherwise receive gifts.”

Toys for Tots is an annual drive sponsored in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps to provide presents for less fortunate children in local communities. The program welcomes new toys for children between the ages of seven and 14. Interested persons are encouraged to donate things like games, sports equipment and small electronics, among others. Last year, the Marines and volunteers together distributed over 17 million toys to seven million children across the country.

Residents may drop off donations at Harper’s constituent service office, located at 4926 S. Ashland in Chicago, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Please join me in spreading the holiday spirit this season by giving to children in need,” Harper said. “It is during this time of year that we all aspire to do more by helping and giving, and this toy drive is another good way to do just that.”
