STREAMWOOD, Ill. – With the holiday shopping season around the corner, state Rep. Fred Crespo, D-Hoffman Estates, is encouraging local residents to celebrate and support locally owned, small businesses on Small Business Saturday this Nov. 25.
“Small businesses play an important role in our communities,” Crespo said. “The people who run these small businesses are friends, family and our neighbors. They work hard to provide services and goods for us and are the backbone of our local economy.”
Small Business Saturday was established in 2010 as an annual event to encourage holiday shoppers to patronize small, local businesses. Small Business Saturday follows Black Friday and calls on residents to support these businesses through the course of their holiday shopping. According to the American Independent Business Alliance, every dollar spent at a small business can bring $3.50 into the local economy, which is why Crespo is encouraging residents to shop locally.
“Local small businesses have been hurt because of the unfair Cook County beverage tax,” Crespo said. “Protecting local business is important to me. I encourage members of the community to join me in supporting small business by shopping local over the holiday season.”
