CHICAGO – To recognize, honor and celebrate those who commit themselves to protecting and serving our communities, state Rep. Mary Gill, D-Chicago, passed a resolution marking Aug. 27, 2025 as ‘Hero Day’ in Illinois.

“We can’t take for granted the services our first responders deliver each and every day,” Gill said. “That’s why it’s important to take a moment to thank and recognize these heroes who are always ready to step up for our communities. Their dedication, bravery and sacrifice are critical for our shared wellbeing, and I’m grateful for those who are willing to do this difficult work.”

Gill worked with the 100 Club of Illinois to develop House Joint Resolution 23. The measure notes that firefighters, law enforcement and other first responders regularly put themselves in harm’s way to protect lives and provide critical aid in times of need. Gill’s resolution further underscores the importance of appropriately recognizing and expressing appreciation for these dedicated individuals who work tirelessly.

The 100 Club of Illinois provides resources, financial support, access to training and moral support to both the families of first responders killed in the line of duty and active duty first responders throughout the state. For more information, please visit www.100clubil.org.

House Joint Resolution 23 received bipartisan support and was adopted by the House earlier this year.
