SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Mary Gill, D-Chicago, has been selected as the Vice-Chairperson of the Illinois House’s Agriculture & Conservation Committee, where she will further advocate for the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences and support an industry critical to the state’s economic wellbeing.

“I’m proud to represent the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, a leading academy that produces outstanding students every year who then go on to make a difference in farming communities across our state,” Gill said. “Our state’s agriculture industry impacts every community in Illinois, supporting jobs and our access to food and fuel. It’s an industry that brings investment to this state from around the world, and it’s critical that the General Assembly is a strong partner in ensuring agriculture continues to thrive.”

Gill has been a strong supporter for agricultural causes, earning recognition last year by the Cook County Farm Bureau and Illinois Farm Bureau with a “Friend of Agriculture” award. In addition to her legislative record, Gill has regularly engaged stakeholders to better understand the challenges facing the industry, including “adopting” a farm in northwest Illinois’ Stephenson County to see firsthand the work being done.

In addition to the Agriculture & Conservation Committee, Gill will join the Police & Fire, Mental Health & Addiction, Veterans’ Affairs, Prescription Drug Affordability & Small Business, Tech Innovation, & Entrepreneurship Committees.

“A lot of people in our area may not think about the impact of agriculture, but it does make a real difference in the economic health of our community,” Gill said. “I’m looking forward to joining this committee, and of the work ahead to build a stronger Illinois that offers greater opportunity for everyone.”
