CHICAGO – Last week state Rep. Mary Gill, D-Chicago, joined National Night Out events in support of the Chicago Police Department’s 22nd District and the Worth Police Department.

“Our community is home to many brave officers who have chosen to serve us, and it’s important that they understand we support them and have their back,” Gill said. “These were great events that helped to bring the community together as we showed our appreciation for a difficult job that requires incredible sacrifice. In our worst hours, these are the people that are always there for us.”

Gill was joined in attendance by state Sen. Bill Cunningham, D-Chicago, to share thanks and meet with families. Both lawmakers supported a state budget plan that directs over $100 million in training and resources for first responders, backed benefit protections for police and are pushing efforts to recruit and retain officers.

“We want to make sure every officer has the resources and equipment they need to do their job safely and effectively,” Gill said. “It’s also important to remember the sacrifices that law enforcement families make as well. The scheduling and stress demands of these jobs are not easy to deal with, but these families find a way. We appreciate all that they do.”
