SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – As the spring legislative session wrapped up Saturday, state Rep. Mary Gill, D- Chicago, backed a balanced budget plan that supports first responders, strengthens healthcare access and directs more resources toward schools while making significant cuts to government bureaucracy.

“This is a responsible budget plan that looks to maximize our resources on issues that impact families directly,” Gill said. “There’s been a lot of uncertainty this year, but this measure better positions us to tackle challenges as they arise while maintaining critical commitments to residents.”

The Gill-supported budget cuts more than $190 million in government administration so that greater resources can go toward classrooms, healthcare and other family priorities. The measure further prepares Illinois to address future challenges by developing additional reserve funds that can be tapped in a contingency.

Gill this session continued her advocacy for local residents, passing a plan to ensure more funding is directed toward the purchase and maintenance of ambulances and other emergency vehicles (House Bill 2977) and leading a proposal requiring health insurance providers cover medication that slows the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease and other related dementias (Senate Bill 126).

“My work in Springfield reflects the concerns brought to me by local residents, and I’m encouraged by the positive steps we’ve taken forward together,” Gill said. “A lot of work remains, but I’m optimistic that we will continue to collaborate and build a brighter future for us all.”
