CHICAGO – State Rep. Mary Gill, D-Chicago, joined local residents in a stand against hate as the Beverly Unitarian Church rededicated a pride flag display following the destruction of its previous display by vandals earlier in June.

“Our community values inclusion, and we’re not going to tolerate bigoted vandals who operate in hate and violence,” Gill said. “It’s encouraging to see the community rally together in the face of hate and to show our support for those targeted.”

Gill visited Beverly Unitarian Church on June 30 with U.S. Rep. Sean Casten and local residents for a pride flag rededication ceremony. On June 9, someone tore down and burned their pride-related decorations. In response, the congregation chose to reaffirm its welcoming values of fairness and equity by restoring its decorations, arranging a pride celebration and sending a strong public message that it will not be intimidated.
