CHICAGO – In support of local law enforcement, state Rep. Mary Gill, D-Chicago, volunteered at the Get Behind the Vest Pancake Breakfast earlier this week, helping to raise funds for the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation as it helps officers purchase lifesaving bulletproof vests.
“It was great to see the community come out and show appreciation and support for our local officers,” Gill said. “Making sure our police have modern bulletproof vests can be the difference between coming home safely or not. It’s critical that we support our officers on the state and local level, so that they have the resources they deserve to do their job safely and effectively.”
The annual pancake breakfast took place Sunday at St. John Fisher Elementary School in Beverly. Proceeds raised from the event will help officers pay for their own bulletproof vests, which can cost $500 or more and need to be replaced every five years.
