CHICAGO – With the help of state funding, a Mt. Greenwood streetscape project backed by state Rep. Mary Gill, D-Chicago, will upgrade lighting, improve pedestrian safety and enhance the beauty of the W. 111th St. corridor between S. Homan Ave. and S. Sacramento Ave.

“It’s exciting to see this project one step closer to completion,” Gill said. “For businesses and residents, this is going to be a noticeable improvement. It’s critical that we continue to pursue and support local infrastructure projects that create jobs, spark economic development and benefit the surrounding area.”

Before her appointment to the state representative position, Gill served as executive director of the Mt. Greenwood Community and Business Association (MGCBA) where she advocated for the streetscape project. Scheduled to be finished early next year, the $8 million effort will include road resurfacing, improved disability access, wider sidewalks, new lighting and landscaping.

Gill joined area officials for a ceremonial groundbreaking at the site last week.

“This kind of project attracts investment, prioritizes local residents and makes our community a better place to live,” Gill said. “I’m thankful for the hard work from advocates on the city, state and local level who have helped to make this development a reality.”
