DECATUR, Ill. – Following Saturday’s tornado that devastated the community of Taylorville, state Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, issued the following statement:

“My heart goes out to the families impacted by the tornado that hit central Illinois on Saturday night.  I cannot imagine the sadness and fear felt by the families that face damage to their homes.  I thank God that there were no fatalities, and I ask my fellow central Illinois residents to continue praying for the folks of Taylorville.  Now is a time for our community to come together, and I ask everyone to look into their heart and consider donating to the survivors of this tornado.”

With many families possibly being displaced as it was estimated over 100 homes were severely damaged, Scherer is encouraging donations to the Taylorville Food Pantry.  The pantry is asking for donations of peanut butter, jelly and other non-perishable food items and snacks.  They are specifically requesting donations of food that people without power can eat.  Other items needed include candles, flashlights, blankets and coats.

Donations can be brought to the Taylorville Food Pantry, located at 1429 East Main Cross in Taylorville, or to Scherer’s district office located at 1301 E. Mound Rd, Suite 270 in Decatur, or her Springfield office, E-2 in the Stratton Office Building.
