SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – After a string of horrific and fatal crashes involving distracted drivers and Illinois State Police vehicles, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is urging caution as drivers take to Illinois highways and to remember Scott’s Law. 

“With the recent rise in crashes, we must remember that our state and local police are truly a thin blue line willing to put their lives on the line on a daily basis,” Moylan said. “My prayers are with the family of Troopers Brooke Jones-Story and Gerald Ellis. Drivers must remember to move over and slow down not just for stopped emergency vehicles, but any disabled vehicle on the side of the road.”  

After 16 crashes involving Illinois State Police, in which three State Police troopers were killed, Moylan is reminding drivers to remember Scott’s Law, which requires motorists to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles. Additionally, Moylan is noting that it is illegal to use a cell phone while driving, the use of which increases the likelihood of an accident.

“Sending a text on our phones or speeding to save a few minutes is not worth the risk of putting the lives of others in danger,” Moylan said. “We must hold each other accountable and be vigilant on our roadways.”
