ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – To provide residents with information about how to appeal their property assessments and possibly reduce their property tax bill, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is holding two local property tax appeals seminars. The first is Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m at the Avon Township Center, located at 433 E. Washington St. in Round Lake Park. The second will be Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Wauconda Park District Building, located at 600 N. Main St. in Wauconda.

“Property Tax relief is one of my main priorities, especially as a member of the Property Tax Relief Commission,” Yingling said. “Helping my community get educated on how they can get relief from the burdens of high property taxes now is extremely important, and I highly encourage anyone to attend this seminar.”

Yingling has been a champion to lower property taxes throughout his time in the General Assembly. He has led the fight to make the Lake County assessor an elected position, bringing transparency and accountability to the office, as well as consolidating units of local government, both of which would reduce property taxes. More recently, Yingling was a major proponent for the creation of the Property Tax Relief Fund, which will allow for the creation of rebates for homeowners on the property taxes they pay.

“One of the largest issues facing the hard-working families throughout the state is the burden of high property taxes,” Yingling said. “I am committed to working for my community, and getting my constituents property tax relief both in Springfield through legislation and in my district through seminars like this one.”

For questions or more information about the event, please contact Yingling’s constituent service office at 847-231-6262 or email repsamyingling@gmail.com.

GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – State Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, recently hosted a property tax assessment seminar to help local homeowners understand the property tax system and the assessment appeal process.

“Homeowners in DuPage County pay some of the highest property taxes in the country, and our local homeowners deserve a full explanation of the assessment process and where their tax dollars go,” said Costa Howard. “I will continue working with my colleagues across the aisle to provide real property tax relief while ensuring public investment in education, public safety and local infrastructure projects.”

As a freshman representative, Costa Howard passed bipartisan legislation to close a legal loophole that had allowed tenants of the DuPage Airport Authority to skip out on nearly $770,000 in overdue property tax payments – forcing other DuPage County taxpayers to pick up the cost. Under the new law, airport tenants that don’t pay their fair share will face hefty fines. As a part of her continued efforts to advocate for DuPage County homeowners, Costa Howard was recently appointed to the state’s newly formed Property Tax Relief Task Force.

Bristow will be hosting two property tax seminars with the Madison County Assessor’s office on the following dates in Godfrey and Bethalto:

The seminars will focus on property tax exemptions and how to apply for them. Residents are encouraged to bring a copy of their latest property tax bill. These events are free and open to the public.

“These seminars will provide the latest information on property taxes and how to potentially lower them,” said Bristow. “I want to thank the office of the Madison County Assessor for helping to provide these seminars to help local residents.”

Attendees learned about the property assessment process as well as how they can appeal their property values, which can lead to lower property taxes. With middle-class families struggling to keep up with high property taxes, Yingling understands how important it is to provide relief to his constituents.

“Taxpayers in my district deserve relief from the incredibly high property tax burden that is placed on them yearly,” said Yingling. “While we have recently made some positive steps in reducing the property tax burden, there are still many families that need help now. Educating residents on how they can appeal their assessments is a great way for families to get a break while I work on legislation in Springfield to cut property taxes for families and build a stronger Illinois.”

Daniel Didech, D-Buffalo Grove, held a property tax assessment appeal seminar in Wheeling last week with Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi’s office and Cook County Commissioner Scott Britton.

“The large number of residents in attendance at the event demonstrates that more must be done to help connect homeowners with meaningful tax relief,” Didech said. “In addition to hosting events like this, I plan to continue fighting for taxpayers in Springfield in order to hold government accountable and reduce the wasteful spending that drives up property tax bills.”

In Springfield, Didech led the charge to pass Senate Bill 39, which creates the Illinois Property Tax Relief Fund to provide yearly cost-saving rebates to homeowners who qualify for a general homestead exemption. Under Didech’s new law, a homeowner’s rebate amount will be based on the amount of money available in the fund and the number of general homestead exemptions awarded in the state.

Didech’s full time constituent service office is located at 3050 N. Main St. in Buffalo Grove, and can be reached via email at info@RepDidech.com, or via telephone at 847-478-9909.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – With upcoming property tax re-assessments coming to Wheeling Township, state Rep. Mark Walker, D-Arlington Heights, is hosting a series of property tax appeal seminars throughout July to help residents navigate the appeal process.

“Concerns about property taxes continue to be the number one issue I hear about from residents,” Walker said. “I am committed to fighting to reduce property taxes in our communities, so to that end I think it’s important for residents to have a chance to appeal the re-assessments coming out in July. Property owners don’t have a lot of time to make an appeal after they receive their re-assessment, so I’m glad we’ve arranged a series of seminars to provide this important service for our communities.”

Re-assessments for Wheeling Township are slated to be released on July 5 and recipients will have approximately one month to file an appeal with the Cook County Assessor’s Office. With this deadline in mind, Walker’s office is hosting three appeal seminars throughout the 53rd District.

–	The first will be at the Mount Prospect Public Library, located at 10 S. Emerson St. on July 11.
–	The second will be at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library located at 500 N. Dunton Ave. on July 15.
–	The final seminar, scheduled for July 24, will take place at the Prospect Heights Public Library, located at 12 N. Elm St.
–	All events will begin at 6 p.m.

“I encourage every resident who can take advantage of these events to do so,” Walker said. “I’m glad that we were able to partner with various offices in our area as well and I thank those contributing to our seminars. Events like these are one important way to fight the skyrocketing property taxes in our area.”

Jonathan Carroll, D-Northbrook, hosted a property tax appeal seminar this week. The event was a collaboration by Carroll, Northfield Township and the Cook County Assessors Office.

“While I continue to address solutions to the property tax crisis, it is important for residents to know how they can appeal, and potentially, lower their property tax bill,” said Carroll. “I fight every day for tax relief, and it is rewarding to offer residents free services to truly help them save their money. This is what government should be doing on a daily basis.”

Throughout session this year, Carroll supported several legislative proposals to provide tax relief. Partnering with state Rep. David McSweeney, R-Barrington Hills, their House Bill 307 sets out to empower residents to dissolve their townships, if they deem necessary. Eliminating excessive layers of government will help cut down on property taxes by stripping away their ability to raise taxes. Additionally, Carroll sponsored Senate Bill 1236, which will crack down on politicians double dipping on pensions and taxpayer-funded salaries. Finally, Carroll passed Senate Bill 1932 out of the General Assembly to create the Property Tax Relief Task Force, which will consist of both Democrats and Republicans, to find remedies to lowering property taxes.

Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is inviting Elk Grove Township homeowners to attend a Property Tax appeals seminar scheduled for Monday, April 29t at 6:30 p.m. at the Elk Grove Township building, located at 2400 S. Arlington Heights Rd. in Arlington Heights.

“As a state representative, it is my responsibility to provide resources to my community that will help address the alarming tax burden homeowners are facing every day,” Moylan said. “I encourage all Elk Grove township homeowners to attend this event with the Cook County Assessor’s office because they will be reassessing properties in Elk Grove Township this year, and your bill may change.”

The seminar will provide residents with information on how to appeal their property tax bill with Cook County. Residents of Elk Grove Township should bring their property tax bill, paperwork from any appraisal performed in the past 18 months and a closing statement if the home was purchased within the last year.

To help provide further relief, Moylan has voted multiple times over the years for a property tax freeze. These measures would prohibit any level of government from raising property tax rates unless approved by a majority of the voters.

“It’s important that residents understand their property tax bills and know how to properly appeal their assessment with Cook County,” Moylan said. “Attending this seminar will give residents the information they need to potentially save hundreds of dollars on their property tax bills.”

Cook County is mailing assessment notices to Elk Grove Township residents on April 18 and the last date for appeals accepted for Elk Grove Township homeowners will be May 20.
