CHICAGO – To help make a merry Christmas possible for family members of deceased Chicago firefighters, state Rep. Fran Hurley, D-Chicago, recently helped present the Ende, Menzer, Walsh and Quinn (EMWQ) Retirees’ Widows’ and Children’s Assistance Fund’s annual holiday gift to widows of the Chicago Fire Department (CFD). 

“The holiday season can be especially difficult for families who lost a loved one, whether in the line of duty or after their service ended,” Hurley said. “I am very grateful to the generous supporters who honor our heroes’ service by taking care of those they loved most.”

Hurley joined Local 2 President Jim Tracy, City Clerk Anna Valencia, Alderman Matt O’Shea, the Juan Bucio Family, Captain Tony Martin, first shift members of the 111th St. and Albany firehouse and CFD officials to present a $600,000 check to the CFD Widow and Orphans Fund from the EMWQ Assistance Fund. The fund provides financial assistance to the neediest widows and children of fallen firefighters through the generous support of active and retired members, as well as friends of the department.
