Thaddeus Jones, D-Calumet City, is standing with seniors and senior advocates like AARP to oppose Washington politicians’ dangerous cuts to senior Meals on Wheels, which would affect the more than 115,000 elderly residents who depend on the program.

“Donald Trump’s extreme proposal to slash funding for Meals on Wheels is just another example of his out-of-touch agenda that is more focused on putting the needs of the very wealthy above our most vulnerable residents,” Jones said. “Both President Trump and Governor Rauner should be focused on ensuring our seniors, veterans, and disabled residents get the care they need and less on trying to promote their corporate agendas.”

Jones sponsored House Resolution 274, which states the Illinois House of Representatives’ opposition to efforts by Washington insiders to cut Meals on Wheels and other federally funded programs that provide senior meals.

As Gov. Bruce Rauner refuses to do his job and introduce a responsible budget that provides for our state’s most critical services, Jones backs efforts to protect Meals on Wheels and other vital programs. He is urging the governor to return to the negotiating table and work with all sides to pass a fair and responsible budget to ensure local seniors continue receiving the critical services they rely on.

“Meals on Wheels and many other senior programs have literally been starved to the bone while the demand for these services is greater than ever before due to aging demographics,” said Nancy LeaMond, executive vice president of AARP. “Without continued investments in these cost-effective programs, taxpayers will end up paying far more to hospitalize or otherwise care for the frail elderly, many of whom are homebound.”

“Meals on Wheels plays a vital role in helping keep seniors in their homes and out of costly nursing homes,” Walsh said. “The drastic cuts that politicians in Washington are proposing would be devastating to seniors in Illinois, and I will continue to stand with Illinois seniors by protecting this program and others that help keep them living independently and healthily.”

Walsh is sponsoring House Resolution 274, which states the Illinois House of Representatives’ opposition to efforts by Washington insiders to cut Meals on Wheels or the Congregate Meals Program, or to eliminate community block grants which provide funding for senior meal programs.

As Governor Bruce Rauner refuses to do his job and introduce a responsible budget that provides for our state’s most critical services, Walsh recently voted to defend Meals on Wheels by voting to pass a lifeline budget that would commits special funds currently sitting unused to sustain Meals on Wheels and prevent local seniors from being denied critical care.

“We have a responsibility to deliver critical care to Illinois residents, regardless of what happens in Washington,” said Mussman. “It is unconscionable for Washington politicians to slash the services that older adults in our communities depend on, and I am standing with seniors in opposing any cuts to Meals on Wheels and other programs that help them live healthy lives in their own homes.”

Mussman is sponsoring House Resolution 274, which states the Illinois House of Representatives’ opposition to efforts by Washington insiders to cut Meals on Wheels or the Congregate Meals Program, or to eliminate community block grants which provide funding for senior meal programs.

As Governor Bruce Rauner refuses to do his job and introduce an honest budget that provides for our state’s most critical services, Mussman recently voted to defend Meals on Wheels by voting to pass a lifeline budget that would commits special funds currently sitting unused to sustain Meals on Wheels and prevent local seniors from being denied critical care.

“I strongly oppose the cuts that politicians in Washington have proposed to the Meals on Wheels program,” Hoffman said. “Meals on Wheels is a vital program that many seniors in the Metro-East and Southern Illinois depend on to help them remain independent at home. Helping seniors stay in the homes they’ve lived in for decades is not only the morally right thing to do, it also saves significant funds in the long-run by keeping seniors out of much more expensive nursing homes.”

Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is standing with seniors and senior advocates like the AARP to oppose the Trump and Rauner Administrations’ dangerous cuts to senior Meals on Wheels, which would affect the more than 115,000 elderly Illinois residents and hundreds of Lake County residents who depend on the program.

“Homebound seniors in my district rely on these basic services to live with dignity and age at home independently,” said Yingling. “Taking away access to nutritious meals will have a devastating impact on seniors in my district. Meals on Wheels and similar meal delivery programs for seniors are cost-effective programs that help older residents remain in their homes. Without it, many would be prematurely forced in to unnecessary, expensive nursing home care. None of us want that for ourselves, our parents or our neighbors.”

Yingling is sponsoring House Resolution 274, which states the Illinois House of Representatives’ opposition to efforts by the Trump administration to cut Meals on Wheels or the Congregate Meals Program, or to eliminate community block grants which provide funding for senior meal programs.

As Gov. Bruce Rauner refuses to do his job and introduce a balanced budget that includes funding for programs like Meals on Wheels that give seniors the tools the need to live better lives. Yingling recently stood up to Gov. Rauner to defend Meals on Wheels when he voted to pass a lifeline budget that includes funding Meals on Wheels through special state funds that are currently sitting unused.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is joining seniors from throughout the community to stand against dangerous proposed cuts to Meals on Wheels that would affect more than 115,000 elderly residents in Illinois who rely on the program.

“Meals on Wheels provides seniors in our community with nutritious meals that they would otherwise go without,” Manley said. “The proposed cuts on the state and federal level is another example of wealthy and out of touch politicians trying to cut costs by ignoring the needs of our communities. I will continue to stand up against the attacks on our seniors and families.”

Manley is sponsoring House Resolution 274, which states the Illinois House of Representatives’ opposition to efforts by Washington insiders to cut Meals on Wheels or the Congregate Meals Program, or to eliminate community block grants which provide funding for senior meal programs.

As Governor Bruce Rauner refuses to do his job and introduce an honest budget that provides for our state’s most critical services, Manley recently voted to defend Meals on Wheels by voting to pass a lifeline budget that would commit special funds currently sitting unused to sustain Meals on Wheels and prevent local seniors from being denied critical care.

“Meals on Wheels and many other senior programs have been literally starved to the bone while the demand for these services is greater than ever before due to aging demographics,” said Nancy LeaMond, executive vice president of AARP. “Without continued investments in these cost-effective programs, taxpayers will end up paying far more to hospitalize or otherwise care for the frail elderly, many of whom are homebound.”

For more information, please contact Manley’s constituent service office at 815-725-2741 or RepManley@gmail.com.

“I have seen the wonderful impact of Meals on Wheels in the lives of family members, and I know how important these programs are for the seniors who depend on them to live healthy lives in their own homes,” said Scherer. “We have a responsibility to make sure that Illinois seniors are protected and cared for, regardless of what happens in Washington.”
