CHICAGO – To help local residents find job opportunities, state Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, recently partnered with Washington Heights Workforce Center to host a hiring fair at his district office in Chicago.

“In our community, there are far too many people who have the skills and ability to be hired but don’t have a job,” said Slaughter. “By partnering with local organizations to host hiring fairs, we can help  residents find  good jobs that will lead to a steady and stable future.”

Slaughter’s event helped connect community members with  job opportunities at agencies such as United Parcel Services (UPS) and Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). This hiring event is part of Slaughter’s ongoing Community Careers Initiative, which seeks to address unemployment in the community. ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – As part of his commitment to provide services to benefit his constituents, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, will be a hosting a Job Fair with the Illinois Department of Employment Security on Oct. 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the University Center of Lake County, located at 1200 University Center Drive in Grayslake.

“My job fair is a fantastic opportunity for those who are looking for a job to see what’s available to them in the local job market,” said Yingling. “I am looking forward to connecting businesses in the area with the talented workforce that we have here in Lake County.”

At Yingling’s Job Fair, job seekers will be able to network with employers, submit their resumes, and receive information about resources for the underemployed and unemployed. Employers from a variety of fields, as well as a range of job opportunities, both full and part-time, will be present.

During his time in the General Assembly, Yingling has been a champion of economic growth and job development. In addition to his work in the district, including his previous job fairs, visits with local small business owners, and resume writing workshops, Yingling has also fought to make changes through legislation to stimulate economic growth, including supporting a bill to expand tax credits for small to medium-sized businesses.

OGLESBY, Ill. – State Rep. Lance Yednock, D-Ottawa, is helping local jobseekers partner with local employers by working with the Illinois Valley Community College to host a job fair on Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the IVCC campus in Oglesby. Local employers will be invited to participate to fill any openings.

“I want Illinois’ middle class to be stronger than it is, and that means helping people find jobs,” Yednock said. “It is tough to make ends meet, and with the sudden closure of the Del Monte Foods in Mendota and the Hennepin Power Plant in our area, employers and employees need to work together to keep our economies going and ensure people know about what opportunities are available here.”

Yednock and the Illinois Valley Community College will be hosting a joint job fair to help local businesses offer open employment opportunities for job seekers. DECATUR, Ill. – To help connect local job seekers to new career opportunities, state Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, is partnering with Workforce Investment Solutions to offer a free community job fair on Wednesday, Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall located at 520 E North St. in Decatur.

“As I continue my efforts to build a stronger Illinois that puts middle-class families first, it’s important to me that I help local job seekers by hosting events like this job fair that will help residents gain full-time employment.” Scherer said. “Connecting residents with good-paying jobs helps build a stronger middle-class, which in turn lifts the entire state’s economy,”

CHICAGO – As the 2020 Census approaches, state Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, is partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau to host a census job fair and help connect local residents to upcoming job opportunities.

“Information gathered from the census will help ensure that our community has accurate representation in Congress and receives the federal funding it needs for the resources we rely on, such as schools, medical centers and infrastructure,” said Slaughter. “In order to make sure that each and every person is counted, the U.S. Census Bureau will be filling numerous positions to help get the job done, and this event will help local residents find out more about the job opportunities available.”

The event will take place on Thursday, Aug. 29 from 10 a.m. to noon at Carter G. Woodson Regional Library, located at 9525 S. Halsted St. in Chicago. Representatives from the U.S. Census Office will be present to provide information on local job opportunities during the census and to assist with the application process.

“By connecting local residents with job opportunities available for the 2020 Census, we are not only helping people gain meaningful employment, but we are also helping these individuals make a difference in their communities,” said Slaughter. “I am very excited to see what opportunities the U.S. Census Bureau has to offer, and I encourage all members of our community to attend.”

HILLSIDE, Ill. – State Rep. Emanuel “Chris” Welch, D-Hillside, continued his efforts to help local job seekers gain employment by hosting his annual job fair last week at the Proviso Math and Science Academy in Forest Park.

“As I fight in Springfield to build a stronger Illinois that puts working families first and creates jobs in our community, it’s important to me that I continue to help job seekers locally by hosting events like my job fair,” Welch said. “We had a great turnout this year and I would like to thank all the employers and residents seeking employment who attended.”

At Welch’s fair job seekers were able to network, submit their resumes and receive resources for the unemployed and underemployed. Multiple state agencies and local companies hosted booths at the event to discuss job opportunities with prospective employees.

GRANITE CITY, Ill. – Over the weekend, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, welcomed employers and job seekers to the Granite City Township Center for a job fair, which Stuart hosted in partnership with Metro-East area legislators state Rep. Monica Bristow, state Rep. Jay Hoffman and state Sen. Rachelle Crowe.

“Oftentimes, employers and job seekers just need an opportunity like a job fair to make that initial connection that can lead to an interview,” Stuart said. “This weekend, I saw many employers and job seekers leave with interviews scheduled for the upcoming week.”

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. – Metro East residents will have the opportunity to meet with potential employers face to face thanks to state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, and other local legislators.  On Saturday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Rep. Monica Bristow (D-Alton), Rep. Jay Hoffman (D- Swansea), state Sen. Rachelle Crowe (D-Edwardsville), and Rep. Stuart are hosting a job fair at the Granite City Township Hall. 

“Searching for a new job can be a daunting task between the various mediums to post job listings,” said Stuart. “This is a great opportunity for those looking for employment to network directly with potential employers.”

The job fair will be made up of more than 20 different employers in the Greater St. Louis area, representing various local industries.  Attendees are encouraged to bring copies of their résumé to exchange with employers. The event will be held at the Granite City Township Hall, located at 2060 Delmar Avenue in Granite City.

“This event is set up to help both employers and job seekers expedite the job search process,” said Stuart. “The jobs available at the fair will be a great stepping stone to beginning a career.”

CHICAGO – State Rep. Fran Hurley, D-Chicago, hosted her first Job Club meeting at her district office in Chicago on February 23. She will be holding a series of meetings to serve as an informal gathering for those seeking jobs. The intent of meetings is to provide individuals with useful tactics on how to apply for career opportunities and network.

“Job hunting can be a difficult, time-consuming process. I hope this series is helpful to area job seekers and allows them to gain necessary information to successfully find a job,” Hurley said. “I am committed to supporting efforts in Illinois to create and retain jobs, and to ensure that local job seekers have opportunities to maximize their potential and become gainfully employed.”

The Job Club meeting included discussion on resumes, professional profiles, and a wide-variety of online informational tools available to job seekers. In addition, attendees learned about utilizing IllinoisJobLink.com as a resource, as well as the Do’s and Don’ts when applying for a job.

The next Job Club meeting will be held on Friday, March 30 at the Beverly Branch of the Chicago Public Library, located at 1962 95th Street in Chicago, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The series will be held the last Friday of every month at varying locations. COLLINSVILLE, Ill. – To help connect local employers and job seekers, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, hosted a Community Job Fair at the N.O. Nelson Campus of Lewis and Clark Community College. With over three dozen employers in attendance, people in search of jobs were able to receive face-to-face time with members of each company.

“I appreciate all the employers who came and provided an opportunity to folks who are looking to enter the workforce or make a career change. We had a diverse group with a mix of opportunities for job seekers,” said Stuart. “I am hopeful for the attendees who told me they left with good leads and some follow-up interviews already scheduled.”

In addition to hosting job fairs and other events to help local residents find work, Stuart sponsored legislation to require the state to prioritize locally-made products in purchasing decisions to invest in Illinois jobs. To encourage companies to create new jobs in the state instead of overseas, she also sponsored legislation requiring companies that take state tax breaks to pay back the cost of their taxpayer-funded incentive if they move jobs out of Illinois.

“As I visit constituents at their doors, I continue to hear from residents who are looking for opportunities for good paying jobs they can support their families with. I’ve visited some local businesses and learned they struggle to find qualified candidates for positions they need to fill,” continued Stuart. “Face-to-face contact at an event like a Job Fair can help both the employer and prospective employee determine if they are a good fit.”
