SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – In light of Donald Trump decreasing outreach about affordable health care plans by 90%, State Rep. Jaime Andrade, D-Chicago, voted to pass legislation this week that will ensure information about how to enroll for health insurance coverage through the Illinois Marketplace is available to local residents.

“Access to health care is vital to the well-being of every person in our community,” Andrade said. “By providing working families with information on how to enroll for a plan that meets their needs, we are reducing the number of individuals who refrain from seeing a doctor because of the fear that it will cost too much.”

Andrade backed House Bill 3487, which would require hospitals to display in each facility with an emergency room, information about how to enroll for an affordable health insurance plan through the state exchange. The Kaiser Family Foundation Data reported in 2016 that 817,000 people were uninsured. Later during the 2018-2019 period, the Illinois marketplace reported a 4% decline in the number of individual enrollment. This bill is imperative to the efforts to maintain residents across the state informed about their health care coverage options.

“Far too many individuals fear for their health as a result of Donald Trump’s attempts to take coverage away from millions of people with preexisting conditions like diabetes,” Andrade said. “This bill builds on the progress we’ve made to protect by ensuring that people who may be uninsured know about all of the options available to them.”
