LOMBARD, Ill. – Seniors, caregivers, and family members can get health screenings, meet care providers, learn about consumer protections and more at a Senior Health and Resource Fair hosted by state Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, to be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 9, at the York Township Building, 1502 S. Meyers Rd. in Lombard.

“We have so many services and programs available for seniors and caregivers right here in our own communities, but it can be challenging for people to find the support systems they need,” said Costa Howard. “With this Senior Health and Resource Fair, I’m making it easier for seniors and caregivers to meet healthcare providers, consumer advocates, and financial advisors. I hope people will come to the fair, ask lots of questions, and find out how they can best access high-quality, reliable support services for our seniors and their caregivers.”

The Senior Health and Resource Center will include: 

• Free flu shots and blood pressure screenings
• Ask-A-Pharmacist advice on safe medication use
• One-on-one meetings with providers of senior care
• Access to the Illinois ICash system, to search for unclaimed cash and property
• Information on how to avoid identity theft and other scams that target seniors
• Money-saving advice on utility costs from a Citizen Utility Board representative
• Presentations on financial planning from professional advisors

“As State Representative, I’ve made it a priority to advocate for our seniors,” said Costa Howard. “I’ve supported increased property tax exemptions for senior homeowners and tax credits for purchases made by family caregivers. I’m looking forward to hearing from people who attend our senior Health and Resource Fair, so we can come up with more ideas for new laws that will improve the lives of our older residents and their families.”

CHICAGO – As an effort to bring free resources to community members, state Rep. Theresa Mah, D-Chicago, is hosting a Community Health Fair this Saturday, March 24th, at Arturo Velasquez Institute, located at 2800 S Western Ave. in Chicago.

“With the full-on attack on healthcare we are seeing in Washington DC, it is important that people in our state have access to health services right in our communities,” said Mah. “It not only helps our neighbors be in the best health they can, but is a good way to bring people together and feel an overall sense of community.”

Rep. Mah is hosting her 2nd annual Community Health Fair on Saturday, March 24th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. where healthcare professionals will be on site performing free health screenings to community members. Some of the services that will available are free screenings of glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, vision, dental, and more. Free haircuts and manicures will also be offered at the health fair.

“I want to bring these services right to people, instead of them having to make costly doctor’s appointments to just screen for potential issues,” said Mah. “When people have an understanding of their overall health condition, they can start to make the necessary changes to ensure that they can increase their quality of life.”

ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill.  – Over fifty families from the Round Lake area received free flu shots, diabetes screenings, blood pressure tests and dental products at a health fair sponsored by Congressman Brad Schneider, IL-10, and state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, this past Sunday during St. Joseph Catholic Church’s annul Three Kings Benefit.

“I am grateful to have partnered with Congressman Brad Schneider, Rosalind Franklin University, the Illinois Dental Hygienist Association and St. Joseph’s to provide local families with basic critical health services,” Yingling said. “Together, we helped dozens of families and I look forward to strengthening our partnerships to better serve our area.”

BERWYN, Ill. – State Rep. Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez, D-Cicero, hosted a successful Winter Health Fair yesterday with MacNeal Hospital, providing local residents essential diabetes screenings and flu shots.

“I’d like to thank MacNeal Hospital for working with me to provide these services to families in our community,” Hernandez said. “Keeping our community safe and healthy is a top priority of mine, and I’ll continue to work to connect families to services and resources that help improve their health and well-being.”

Hernandez partnered up with MacNeal Hospital to provide free glucose and cholesterol screenings, and to provide local residents information about diabetic eye disease and how to keep their eyes healthy. Additionally, people were also able to receive flu shots in order to gear up for winter and protect themselves and their families.

CALUMET CITY, Ill. – In an effort to provide information and help residents connect with various resources and health services, state Rep. Marcus Evans, D-Chicago, will host a community resource and health expo next week.

“Speaking to residents in my district, I understand how valuable programs and services are to people’s quality of life and their ability to provide for their families,” Evans said. “Our community resource and health expo is our effort to address some the concerns I hear by bringing information and resource to our community and informing resident of the help that is available to them.”

Evans’ community resource and health expo will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the campus of South Suburban College at the Athletic and Physical Fitness Center, located at 15800 State Street in South Holland. The expo is free and open to the public. Participating vendors include CEDA, a social services and community development organization Illinois Department of Human Services, the Housing Development Authority, and the Citizens Utility Board.

Evans is also partnering with Medulla LLC, a wellness-focused organization offering critical health programs to communities. Attendees will have the opportunity to receive free resources, health services, utility assistance and information about housing programs.

“I look forward to connecting with the people I represent at our resource fair and I encourage all to come out,” said Evans. “This expo is about addressing the needs of the people and building up our community.”

JOLIET, Ill. – State Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, recently joined seniors from across the community at the Guardians of Golden Agers Resource Festival in Joliet.

“Seniors hold a special place in our community,” Manley said. “We have a responsibility to do everything we can to make sure they are taken care of. Fairs like this help educate everyone in our community about services that are available to help our seniors.”

Manley provided an update to seniors about what has been going on in Springfield. She shared with them her efforts to help reduce their property taxes through the expansion of homeowners’ exemptions for seniors and disabled veterans. Manley also discussed her efforts to protect that provide important assistance to seniors, including home health care and Meals on Wheels.

CHICAGO, Ill. – Over 130 area residents attended a Health Fair this past weekend, hosted by state Rep. Theresa Mah, D-Chicago, all free of charge.

“Healthy communities begin with healthy individuals,” said Mah. “Providing access to these screenings will hopefully lay the groundwork to a healthy future for those in my district.”

Mah hosted the Health Fair on Saturday, March 25th, and partnered with several clinics from the local area. Attendees were provided with free blood pressure, cholesterol, and HIV/hepatitis C screenings. Adults were offered dental exams, while children were offered fluoride treatments and sealants. Women were given vouchers which can be exchanged for a free mammogram sometime in the future. The health of the families living in her district is of great importance to Rep. Mah.

Mah is serving her first term in the Illinois General Assembly as State Representative of the 2nd District, which includes the Chicago neighborhoods of Pilsen, Chinatown, Bridgeport, McKinley Park, Brighton Park and Back of the Yards.
