BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. – State Rep. Jonathan Carroll, D-Buffalo Grove, issued the following statement after the governor’s change to House Bill 1468, which would extend the waiting period to purchase an assault weapon from 24 to 72 hours:

“As a parent and former special education teacher, the importance of public safety goes beyond just words. It’s our responsibility. It’s our duty.

“I am reviewing the governor’s amendatory veto of my legislation, House Bill 1468, which would extend the waiting period to purchase an assault weapon from 24 to 72 hours.

“I am displeased with the governor’s late decision to delay participating in the process until the 11th hour. His actions today delayed implementation of critical public safety legislation.

“When it comes to solving the chronic issue of gun violence, we need to work together because lives are at stake. I call on the governor to work with us in an orderly process to implement solutions we know can work before more lives are lost.”
