Mary Edly-Allen, D-Libertyville, invites residents to participate in her Environmental Citizens Advisory Council on Thursday, April 25, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Libertyville Civic Center, located at 135 W. Church St. in Libertyville.

“From promoting renewable energy to cracking down on corporations that release carcinogenic chemicals like ethylene oxide into the air, there are many important issues being discussed in Springfield that will affect our families,” Edly-Allen said. “This meeting gives residents the opportunity to discuss state and local sustainability initiatives and share their ideas for future legislation.”

Edly-Allen will welcome community members and special guest, Illinois Environmental Council Legislative Director Colleen Smith, for a candid discussion on environmental legislation and local priorities for future green jobs, sustainability and conservation initiatives.

In Springfield, Edly-Allen serves as a member of the House Energy & Environmental Committee and recently voted to expand Illinois’ renewable energy portfolio by supporting the Future Energy Jobs Act. This legislation will move Illinois to 100% renewable energy by 2050, create thousands of clean energy jobs, and position our state as a leader in zero-carbon electricity.

“We all have an important role to play in preserving our natural resources and protecting the environment for future generations,” Edly-Allen said. “The conversations and steps we take today to advocate for the environment will ensure that future generations will enjoy a clean and healthy planet, country and state.”

Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is partnering with leaders from the Illinois Environmental Council and the Sierra Club for a public discussion with local residents about ways to promote green jobs and protect our environment on Wednesday, June 13 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Byron Colby Barn located at 1561 Jones Point Rd. in Grayslake.

“Focusing on greener energy and working to ensure greater protections for Lake County’s abundant system of forest preserves and waterways is very important to local residents,” Yingling said. “My annual forum on environmental issues allows me to continue my collaborative efforts with constituents and experts in environmental advocacy to discuss future policy solutions. It also helps me maximize my availability to the people I serve by providing more, open and transparent forums for them to share their ideas with me. “

Yingling’s environmental forum presents residents with an opportunity to learn and share their thoughts and concerns about environmental issues facing the state. Representatives from the Illinois Environmental Council and the Sierra Club will be available to provide updates on legislation and policy pending in Springfield and answer environmental questions from attendees.

“Advancing green energy and applying it throughout the state will protect our precious natural resources, while boosting the economy through newly created jobs,” Yingling added. “By integrating clean energy into more public buildings, Illinois can become a leader in habitat preservation and a model in economic leadership.”
