CHICAGO – State Rep. Camille Lilly, D-Chicago, and Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx recently held a community justice symposium to discuss gun safety and community policing with neighborhood residents.

“We must work together at all levels to ensure that we are providing equal justice for people regardless of income, sex, race, or ethnicity,” Lilly said. “This was a great opportunity for me to hear the concerns and ideas from residents throughout the district.”

At Lilly’s Community Justice Symposium, she and Foxx discussed ways for people to work with the police, state’s attorney office on the grand jury process and gun safety matters. Lilly also announced where the community can find the details of the Gun Dealer Licensing Act, Senate Bill 1657, which would require entities that engage in the selling, leasing and transferring of firearms to be licensed with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Responsibility (IDFPR).

“There is much work to be done to reduce gun crime in Chicago and throughout Cook County,” said State’s Attorney Foxx. “We all have a role to play in addressing gun violence, and we need to keep this important topic at the forefront of our conversations about public safety.”
