RED BUD, Ill. – Later this month, state Rep. Nathan Reitz, D-Steeleville, is partnering with the Illinois Comptroller’s office to bring the Check for Cash program to Southern Illinois.

“When taxpayers do not cash checks from the state, whether it be an income tax refund or another state-issued check, those unclaimed funds are then held by the Comptroller’s office until they can be returned to the rightful owner,” said Reitz. “I am excited to bring this program to our local communities, because it helps to connect taxpayers with money that is rightfully theirs.”

Area residents are invited to stop by Reitz’s Check for Cash events on Wednesday, July 17:
•	Columbia Public Library – 9:30 a.m. to noon, located at 106 N. Metter Ave. in Columbia
•	Morrison-Talbott Library – 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., located at 215 Park St. in Waterloo

The Illinois Comptroller currently has records of more than 100,000 uncashed checks worth over $30 million.

“Sometimes folks lose or misplace checks. This program helps to solve that problem by allowing them do a free search to see if you have an uncashed check in possession of the state, issued within the last ten years,” continued Reitz. “There may be something out there that was forgotten about or someone did not realize was even owed to them, so I encourage all local residents to stop by.”

For more information, contact Rep. Reitz’s constituent service office by calling 618-282-7284 or by emailing RepNReitz@gmail.com.
