AURORA, Ill. – In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, state Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, is collecting feminine hygiene products to be donated to Mutual Ground, a local crisis intervention center, during the whole month of October.

“The individuals who utilize Mutual Ground’s services have been placed in situations that no woman should ever have to face in their lives, and the last thing that should occur is putting their wellbeing at risk by not being able to afford tampons, pads and other hygiene products,” said Hernandez. “All women deserve to feel empowered, and I hope that residents of my district will consider donating products to benefit the women and girls at Mutual Ground.”

Hernandez’s supply drive will take place throughout the month of October. Items needed include, but are not limited to, pads, tampons, conditioner, shampoo, and diapers sizes 5 and 6. There will be three locations throughout Aurora with donation bins where residents can bring supplies:

• Hernandez’s district office, located at 540 W. Galena Blvd.
• Prisco Community Center, located at 140 W. Illinois Ave.
• Downtown Aurora Public Library, located at 101 S. River St.

“With our emergency shelter running at more than 90% capacity recently, it is incredibly important for us to receive donations of everyday household goods,” said Kathy Melone, Advancement Director at Mutual Ground. “Mutual Ground relies on the generosity of our community to serve all the individuals coming to us for domestic violence and sexual assault services. We are so appreciative of all of the donations we receive, and are excited to be the beneficiary of Rep. Hernandez’s supply drive.”

AURORA, Ill. – State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, is hosting a Staycation Seminar next
Thursday, June 20th at the Aurora Public Library’s Eola Road Branch, located at 555 S. Eola Rd.
in Aurora. The event starts at 6 p.m. and is free to the public.

“Now is the time of year families are looking to get out of the house and spend quality time
together with fun, family-friendly activities to enjoy over the summer months,” said Kifowit.
“There are many local amenities that people can take advantage of without having to break the
bank for an expensive getaway.”

Kifowit has invited speakers from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, DuPage County
Forest Preserve, the Aurora Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Heritage Corridor and the
Fox Valley Park District to present some of the local attractions that are available to families and
to discuss the state of Illinois parks and recreation. Staycations are great way to have fun while
staying close to home and saving money.

“There are many fun activities and things to see right here in our community,” said Kifowit.
“Staying close to home for summer activities will not only help families save money, but
whatever money residents do spend in our area will help boost our local economies and keep our
money here in Illinois.”
