CHICAGO – State Rep. Camille Y. Lilly, D-Chicago, is urging Gov. J.B. Pritzker to enact a measure to assist at-risk students with anger management concerns.

“Some of our most at-risk young people are students who have trouble managing anger. It is critical that we give these students the support they need and deserve,” Lilly said. “Legislators need the guidance of school social workers, children’s mental health experts and other education experts as we develop best practices to serve students with anger management issues.”

Lilly sponsored House Bill 3086 to have the state’s Emotional Intelligence and Social and Emotional Learning Task Force provide education professionals with strategies for addressing the needs of students with anger management issues. The task force contains a variety of stakeholders including children’s mental health experts, school boards, and school social workers. Lilly’s measure will help provide schools with best practices for instruction for students with anger management issues and how to access program funding to serve these students in order to ensure they have equitable learning opportunities.

“This bill will help equip teachers in Illinois with the support necessary to ensure that students with anger management issues receive the same learning opportunities as other students,” Lilly said. “I urge Governor Pritzker to sign this measure to help students with anger management issues.”
