Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, released the following statement Thursday after reports of a settled agreement between United Steelworkers Local 1899 and U.S. Steel to provide two months of back pay for workers laid off in the fall without proper WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) Act notice:

GRANITE CITY, Ill. – State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, released the following statement Thursday after the Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) issued a subpoena to U.S. Steel to investigate its compliance with the Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act regarding layoffs at the Granite City Works.

GRANITE CITY, Ill. – State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, and state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, expressed support for local workers after news broke Tuesday that U.S. Steel plans to lay off a significant portion of the workforce at Granite City Works.

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – After hearing from numerous local professionals who were impacted by long delays getting their licenses processed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, recently supported a legislative proposal that will push the state agency to modernize its outdated computer systems, as well allow for extensions on expirations and renewal deadlines over the next year as the backlog is addressed.

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – With Thanksgiving around the corner, state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, is joining Meridian Health and state Sen. Christopher Belt, D-Swansea, for a free turkey and ham giveaway this upcoming Tuesday, Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Downtown Belleville YMCA, located at 200 S. Illinois St.

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Concerned about the delays area nurses and other licensed professionals routinely face while trying to obtain and renew a state license for their job, state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, is encouraging the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR) to update its license review process so that the department can handle applications more effectively.

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Thanks to advocacy from state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, $580,000 in state grants through the Rebuild Illinois capital program have been issued for local projects – including support for St. Clair Associated Vocational Enterprises (SAVE), building improvements for the Swansea Police Department, infrastructure reconstruction at Belleville’s Bicentennial Park and highway equipment to support local services in St. Clair Township.
