Biography

Abdelnasser Rashid represents parts of Chicago’s southwest side and the western and southwestern suburbs. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University and a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Economics from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Rashid has passed more than ten laws and was appointed to co-chair Illinois’ AI Task Force. He received the 2025 Milestone Achievement Award from the Illinois Environmental Council for his landmark legislation phasing out cancer-linked forever chemicals from consumer products. His legislative priorities include affordability, environmental justice, consumer protection, and responsible technology governance. First elected in 2022, he is the first Palestinian American to serve in the Illinois General Assembly. He lives in Bridgeview with his wife and four children.

Statement from Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid on Major Endorsement for Illinois Human Rights Advocacy Protection Act

BERWYN, Ill. – State Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid, D-Bridgeview, announced today that the Illinois House Progressive Caucus has endorsed the Illinois Human Rights Advocacy and Protection Act (HB 2723). HB 2723 would repeal the requirement that Illinois pension funds divest from companies that stop doing business in or with Israel. Two-thirds of members were required to support the bill in order to receive Caucus support. On this milestone, Rashid issued the following statement:

Illinois Environmental Council Honors Rep. Rashid with Milestone Achievement Award for Landmark Legislation Banning Forever Chemicals

CHICAGO – The Illinois Environmental Council announced this week that they will be honoring state Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid, D-Chicago, and state Sen. Julie Morrison, D- Lake Forest, with the 2025 Milestone Achievement Award to recognize their work in passing landmark legislation to phase out PFAS, also known as forever chemicals, from consumer products in Illinois.
