DECATUR, Ill. – Last week, State Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, was given the opportunity to meet with students from Edwin A. Lee Elementary School in Springfield.

“The students are absolutely wonderful and were very engaged the entire time,” Scherer said. “You could tell they really enjoy their time at school, they really want to learn.”

Lee Elementary School is a public school that teaches both Pre-K to 5th grade classes as well as providing special needs services to students ages 5-22. Special needs educators at Lee teach their students functional academics with a focus on developing life skills to help the students be more independent as they get older. Scherer visited several classes including 3rd Grade Teacher Erica West’s class to read to the students and engage them with questions.

“Ms. Erica’s class made me miss my teaching days,” Scherer said. “These children are our future. I will do everything I can to help make a difference in their lives.”

Scherer represents the 96th District, which includes portions of Christian, Macon and Sangamon counties.
