SPRINGFIELD, IL– In response to Governor Rauner’s State Budget Address, state Rep. Marty
Moylan, D-Des Plaines, issued the following statement:
“The state of Illinois needs a bipartisan, balanced budget. Frankly, we need the governor step up
and to finally have an active role in the budget making process, something that is long overdue.
“But Rauner’s track record putting together state fiscal budgets is not great. His last three state
budgets have been unbalanced and full of fake gimmicks. Illinois can’t afford more of these
games by our governor. So this year I believe we need a careful line-by- line examination of his
budget. This will ensure that the budget is actually balanced and the governor is indeed serious
about his job.
“There is too much at stake for the governor to play around with phantom savings and devious
tactics in his budget proposal. People’s lives are on the line, so as Democrats we’re prepared to
continue to work cooperatively with legislative Republicans to protect our elderly and most
vulnerable citizens, support our schools, and create jobs with or without Governor Rauner.”
