ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – In response to the governor’s budget address, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, issued the following statement:
“Today the governor delivered his fourth budget address before the General Assembly, once again showing that the governor would rather rely on phony accounting than propose a real plan to get Illinois back on track. Bruce Rauner’s proposal would force a local property tax hike—something residents of the 62nd District simply can’t afford. The governor repeatedly says he is for bipartisan compromise and fiscal responsibility, yet his actions tell a completely different story. Throughout the governor’s more than 700-day budget impasse, he time and time again thwarted negotiations and moved the goal posts to drag out his crisis.
“Any progress in the last three years of Rauner’s tenure has been as a result of Democrats and Republicans coming together without him to find bipartisan solutions. I remain hopeful that the governor sincerely desires a collaborative effort moving forward, but at the end of the day, if the governor isn’t willing to work cooperatively with the legislature to put in place a responsible budget, we’ll continue to work together to craft a responsible budget.”
