SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Following the Governor’s State of the State address to a joint-session of the General Assembly, state Rep. Jonathan Carroll, D-Buffalo Grove, issued the following statement:
“Prior to becoming state Representative, it was reassuring to observe Democrats and Republicans come together last spring to override the Governor’s irresponsible veto of the budget. Had bipartisan efforts to move our state forward failed, the state would have continued down the path of fiscal and economic deterioration.
“Today we heard familiar sentiments, as the Governor tried to escape responsibility for Illinois’ ongoing debt situation, primarily pointing the blame on one side of the aisle. Rather than holding firm on the unrealistic ‘Turn-Around Agenda,’ the Governor should seek to establish mutual ground with leaders from both parties to provide real property tax relief and greater access to essential services that benefit middle-class families.”
