SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Following Gov. Bruce Rauner’s State of the State Address to the General Assembly, state Rep. Marcus Evans, D-Chicago, released the following statement:

“While the governor has refused to accept any responsibility, stating he’s not in charge, the state has faced extreme financial challenges while under his watch, including tripling the state’s debt. Because the governor would rather play games than govern and protect those who need help the most, the minority community has been forced to bear the brunt of his political ploys. Our most vulnerable citizens have been denied lifesaving programs, including domestic violence shelters and cancer screenings for thousands. This is unacceptable, and I will continue to be the voice for those who are not heard. I urge the governor to work with both Democrats and Republicans to make it a priority to protect the most vulnerable and hard-working people in this state.”

Evans has been a leading voice in the General Assembly for poor and minority communities on the south side of Chicago. He has pushed for more funding for programs and education at all levels.
