BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. – As the coldest winter weather approaches, state Rep. Jonathan Carroll, D-Northbrook, is working to help residents lower their phone, electricity and gas bills by hosting a utility bill clinic with the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) on Monday, Jan. 29 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Northbrook Library, located at 1201 Cedar Ln. in Northbrook.

“The big phone and utility companies know how to insert hidden charges in our bills, forcing our families to pay more when we don’t have to,” Carroll said. “CUB is an independent, not for profit consumer advocacy agency that I am proud to partner with to help save families money. In addition to helping residents learn how to read their bills for any extra or unnecessary charges, CUB will share energy-saving tips that can help all of us save money on our winter utility bills.”

At the seminar, local residents concerned about their energy costs can have CUB experts provide a free line-by-line analysis of phone, electricity and gas bills to identify unused services and hidden fees that can be eliminated to help reduce their utility bills.

“Winter utility bills can cause significant hardship for local families and seniors,” Carroll added. “No one should have to make difficult sacrifices just to keep the heat on. Together with CUB, I am committed to helping all local residents stay warm this winter.”
