D’Amico: “Trump’s Tax Plan is a Giveaway to Billionaires and Big Corporations”

CHICAGO – State Rep. John D’Amico, D-Chicago, is opposing the massive tax legislation signed into law by President Trump on Friday.

“Donald Trump’s tax plan was written by billionaires and big corporations, and it’s no surprise that they are the main beneficiaries,” D’Amico said. “The people who this plan should have helped, middle-class families, were instead kicked to the curb by Trump and his corporate allies.”

Donald Trump’s tax bill cuts taxes for the largest corporations, cuts taxes for the wealthiest Americans, makes it easier for corporations to dodge paying U.S. taxes and continues the loophole allowing hedge fund managers to pay lower rates than working people.

In contrast, this past year D’Amico voted to close corporate loopholes, close loopholes used by the wealthy, end tax breaks to companies that moved jobs out of Illinois and end tax breaks used by companies that didn’t provide equal pay to female employees. In addition, D’Amico voted to provide free public college for students with a “B average” or higher and voted to boost grants for high-performing students.

“Trump is continuing to use his office to enrich himself, his family and his corporate allies,” D’Amico continued. “In 2018, you can bet I will be continuing my fight for working people and the middle-class.”
