BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. – State Rep. Jonathan Carroll, D-Buffalo Grove, is partnering with Cell Phones for Soldiers, Inc. to collect used cellphones to help soldiers and active-duty personnel serving overseas connect with their families back home.

“Our military men and women serve on the frontlines to defend our freedoms,” Carroll said. “To show our gratitude, I’m asking residents to donate old cellphones to help service members stay in touch with loved ones.”

Cell Phones for Soldiers collects new, gently used, or old cellphones, MP3 players, smartphones and tablets to be recycled or refurbished. The proceeds are used to purchase prepaid calling cards for service members, with each donated mobile device providing a soldier with 2.5 hours of free talk time. Cellphones can be dropped off during normal business hours at Carroll’s full-time constituent services office located at 830 S. Buffalo Rd., Suite 120 in Buffalo Grove.

“It’s important to remember our veterans throughout the year, but the holidays particularly serve as a reminder of the sacrifice that servicemen and women make,” Carroll said. “A few extra minutes to talk to a loved one can make all of the difference in the world. This is an easy way for the entire community to give back and show our men and women overseas how much we appreciate their service and sacrifice.”
