CHICAGO – State Rep. Sonya Harper, D-Chicago, is partnering with retired state police officer Larry Lindenman to offer local women a Self-Defense Seminar to learn self-defense techniques on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Sherman Park, located at 5440 South Racine Avenue in Chicago.

“Violent crime can happen to anyone, so it is critically important for people to be self-aware and know proper defense techniques if they feel threatened,” said Harper. “At my Self-Defense Seminar, women will get first-hand experience and techniques to defend themselves against an assailant.”

Harper’s Self-Defense Seminar will be hosted in partnership with retired state police officer Larry Lindenman, who sponsors this event to empower women with necessary defense techniques during a dangerous encounter. The event is free and open to the public, and Harper is encouraging local women to patriciate.

“No one should walk out of their house or on a public street fearing for their lives or their safety,” Harper said. “My goal is to give women the opportunity to take precautionary steps to defend themselves since they are disproportionally targeted in criminal situations.”
