D’Amico to Hold Property Tax Appeal Workshop for Jefferson Park Homeowners

CHICAGO – State Rep. John D’Amico, D-Chicago, Ald. Margaret Laurino, D-Chicago and Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Michael Cabonargi, D-Chicago, will help local homeowners reduce their property taxes at a free property tax appeal workshop for Jefferson Park residents on Monday, Jan. 3, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Chicago Metropolitan Division, located at 5040 N. Pulaski Rd. in Chicago.

“Property taxes continue to increase as wages stagnate,” D’Amico. “As I work in Springfield to provide families with real property tax relief, I want to connect residents with resources to help deliver immediate relief.”

D’Amico and Laurino will welcome Cabonargi who will explain the residential property assessment process to residents who wish to appeal their property tax assessments. Attendees should bring a copy of their most recent property tax assessment. Jefferson Park homeowners are eligible to file appeals through the Board of Review through Jan. 9, 2018.

D’Amico recently voted to freeze property taxes for four years by supporting Senate Bill 484. D’Amico has previously supported efforts to cut property taxes for middle-class homeowners by expanding the standard exemption all homeowner can receive on their primary residents, and providing additional relief to seniors and veterans.

“Skyrocketing property taxes have made the dream of homeownership a nightmare for many families in the area,” D’Amico continued. “I will continue to fight for real property tax relief through property tax freeze legislation and in addition to providing a free property tax seminar.”
