Mussman Appointed to House Task Force on Sexual Discrimination and Harassment

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Leading the fight to put an end to predatory and discriminatory behavior in both the public and private sector, state Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, was recently appointed to the House Task Force on Sexual Discrimination and Harassment.

“It is truly disheartening to learn on a near daily basis about another sexual harassment or assault allegation, but I am glad more women are coming forward to report their crimes instead of trying to let them go,” Mussman said. “As a member of the newly created task force, I will work to bring an end to the culture that has kept many women in silence and from seeking justice.”

The Mussman-backed House Resolution 687 creates the Task Force on Sexual Discrimination and Harassment. As an appointee to the task force, Mussman will assist in creating and enhancing policies that prevent sexual discrimination and harassment from occurring in both private and public sectors and make legislative recommendations to the General Assembly.

Mussman also supported recent legislation that creates more protections for women to come forward to report their crimes, creates disciplinary actions for those found guilty of any misconduct and empowers an inspector general to review and study sexual harassment or discriminatory complaints.

“As a mother of three boys, I do not want them to grow up in a world that tolerates people using their positions to harass or discriminate against someone else just to advance their career,” Mussman said. “That is exactly the sort of behavior and misconduct that needs to be addressed head on if we truly want to end sexual harassment in our workplaces.”
