CHICAGO – State Rep. John D’Amico, D-Chicago, is condemning President Trump’s tax scheme that would provide huge tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy and the largest corporations, while increasing the tax burden on the average Cook County family by over $4,000.
“Donald Trump’s tax plan allows millionaires and billionaires to pay next to nothing and forces middle-class families to foot the bill,” D’Amico said. “I am calling on members of Congress to reject Trump’s tax breaks for the one percent and big corporations, as well as demand the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share to fund the services working families depend on.”
Trump and his extreme Washington allies recently released a proposed tax plan, written behind closed doors and with no input from the public. Under Trump’s plan, millionaires and billionaires would receive huge tax breaks, while Cook County families would lose an average annual deduction of over $4,000 on their tax bills due to the repeal of the state and local tax (SALT) deduction.
“Donald Trump prefers to look out for the wealthiest Americans over middle-class Americans by helping them avoid paying their fair share,” D’Amico continued. “The last thing Washington politicians should be doing is shifting the tax burden away from millionaires and billionaires and forcing it onto those who can least afford it.”
