ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Wrapping up October’s National Principals Month, state Rep. Mike Halpin, D-Rock Island, visited Rock Island High School on Monday to serve as Principal for a Day, meeting and shadowing Principal Eric Moore, administrators, teachers and students.
“Many of the votes I take in Springfield have a direct impact on the day-to-day experience of students and educators, so it’s important for me to learn firsthand about their needs and concerns,” Halpin said. “I’m grateful to Principal Moore for the leadership he provides to students and for the opportunity to fill his shoes as Principal for a Day.”
The Principal for a Day program provides opportunities for principals and administrators to build strong relationships with lawmakers. It also gives students a chance to learn about the roles their local officials play in the community and how they can become more civically engaged.
