Mussman Holds Budget Town Hall for Constituent Feedback

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – As part of an ongoing series of town halls, state Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, held her fifth meeting of the year to listen to the new ideas, thoughts, and concerns of Schaumburg area residents over the past weekend. This was the first town hall to discuss at length the new balanced state budget Mussman supported.

“Even though we do now have a budget in place that spends $3 billion less than Governor Rauner’s proposal, our work is nowhere near complete,” said Mussman. “I want people to know that I voted against raising income taxes because the state cannot continue to rely on middle-class families to pick up the tab for fiscal shortcomings in Springfield.”

In addition to knocking on doors and calling constituents, Mussman’s town hall meetings give people an opportunity to physically meet their elected officials and neighbors, to ask questions and hear differing viewpoints about the work occurring in Springfield. Some topics of discussion were the negative consequences for our seniors, students, and survivors of domestic violence that the Governor’s two-year budget stalemate has created. Illinois’ financial shape has consistently worsened under the Governor’s leadership and direction.

“This is the best possible time to host town hall meetings,” Mussman said. “What Illinois needs now more than ever is organic, out-of-the-box thinking that only town halls can produce. I think that the elected officials who hide from public discussions with the people they represent are missing an opportunity to move their community forward and that’s a shame.”

Mussman serves the 56th District, which includes portions of Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Roselle, Rolling Meadows, and Palatine.
