Chung Focuses on Constituent Requested Legislation

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – State Rep. Sharon Chung, D-Bloomington, sponsored and advocated for legislation brought to her by constituents in this legislative session, from backing nurses to public media employees.

“One of the best parts of being a State Representative is the ability to represent our community and fight for our specific issues,” said Chung. “I’m proud to say all the legislation I passed through the House and Senate this legislative session were bills brought to me by my constituents— people in our community who used their voice to make a change.” Chung passed seven constituent-backed bills through both chambers, all of which have been signed into law by Governor Pritzker.

The constituent-pushed legislation will:

• Improve National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) standards (House Bill 1807)
• Protect public media employees at state-ran higher education institutions (House Bill 4420)
• Formally remove Illinois Institute for Entrepreneurship Education from Illinois State University (House Bill 4421)
• Ensure nurses are properly licensed (House Bill 4749)
• Allow townships to post landscaping notices on affected property (House Bill 5167)
• Reaffirm healthcare workers’ right to report workplace violence to law enforcement (Senate Bill 2713)
• Require healthcare downcoding to be done manually rather than automatically (Senate Bill 3114)

“These bills speak to some of the excellence in our community, from our healthcare workers and nurses to university public media employees to our local township employees,” said Chung. “Even bills that seem small and are technical can have big impacts, and I’m excited to see these bills improve our state and our community.”
