SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Thaddeus Jones, D-Calumet City, worked through the weekend to finalize and pass a balanced state budget that funds essential services without raising taxes on working families.
“This budget is a reflection of what we value and care about in Illinois,” Jones said. “It makes clear that we care about our communities and working families by prioritizing funding for our local schools, health care providers and public safety initiatives.”
Jones supported House Bill 111, which enacts the Fiscal Year 2027 budget. The budget will help maintain the core government services that working families rely on every day. More than $300 million in new funding will go to schools for extracurricular programming and tax relief programs
The budget also includes:
- A pause on the state’s motor fuel tax increase to help lower transportation costs.
- A sales tax holiday to reduce the cost of clothing, school supplies and other essentials for teachers, students and families.
- Full funding for homelessness prevention and community-based violence prevention programs.
- Support for safety-net hospitals, including an additional $10 million for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) serving vulnerable families.
