CHICAGO- To help seniors learn about resources and services offered to them in a fun, relaxing environment, State Rep. Lilian Jiménez, D-Chicago, and Alderperson Jessie Fuentes, along with other elected officials held a Valentines Senior Brunch Event on Friday, February 13 in the Wicker Park neighborhood in Chicago.
“Seniors make up a large part of our community and it’s vital we ensure they know about valuable resources and services available to them,” said Jiménez. “We want to create a safe, social environment where seniors are celebrated and recognized for their years of leadership in our community. These social safety nets have to exist for everyone in the community and together we will ensure their existence.”
Rep. Jiménez of the 4th District, along with Alderperson Fuentes of the 26th Ward were joined by Senator Omar Aquino, Rep. Eva Dina Delgado and Alderman Daniel La Spata, to host this event. There were also appearances from Commissioner Tara Stamps and Clerk Mariyana Spyropoulos. They invited over 150 local seniors to connect with their elected officials and essential resources such as healthcare and in- home support services. Attendees enjoyed an afternoon of music, dancing and food from local businesses.
“Our seniors deserve to be celebrated not just on Valentine’s Day, but every day,” said Alderperson Jessie Fuentes. “They are the backbone of our communities, carrying wisdom and history that shape who we are. As a city, we have a responsibility to ensure they have access to the resources, services and community connections they need to live with dignity and joy. I am grateful to partner with my fellow Northwest Side elected officials to host an event that centers care and appreciation for the elders who have given so much to us.”
