SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Amy “Murri” Briel, D-Ottawa, released the following statement in response to Governor Pritzker’s annual budget address delivered today:

“Today marks the beginning of the weeks and months ahead, where I’ll be parsing the governor’s proposal line by line to meticulously craft a budget that delivers for our families, our
seniors, our small business owners and our veterans. It's clearer than ever that there is much to do to relieve the cost-of-living crisis impacting families across Illinois. But I believe we have the tools to be fiscally smart and compassionate without compromising fairness for efficiency.

“That’s why I’m more than ready to take this work on and stay true to our community’s needs, especially in a time where the federal government continues to taunt cuts to the most vital of
programs and agencies that Illinois houses. As we begin these budget negotiations, I’ll be making our voices heard at every step of the process—whether that’s improving rural access to
affordable health and childcare, tools to ease property taxes or protecting the services we rely on every day.

“Today is the first step toward building a future every family can afford, and I’m ready to take the governor’s outline and revise it into a plan that puts our communities first.”
