SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, issued a statement on Sunday:

“Today, the House voted on a budget that would raise income taxes on families and businesses in our community. I could not in good conscious vote for a regressive income tax increase on working families, especially because the deal does not provide real property tax relief.

“Our community is becoming more and more unaffordable. I hear it every single day from constituents I meet at the door and out in the community. My constituents have told me loud and clear that they cannot afford more. Lake County residents pay some of the highest property taxes in the entire country. My priority is to streamline government and reduce taxes so that families and businesses can stay here.

“The governor’s three-year budget crisis has caused severe damage to our state. He has spent the last three years moving the goal posts and making eleventh hour demands, making it impossible to have meaningful negotiations. I have met or compromised nearly every single one of his demands, fighting to bring a balanced budget and real property tax relief to my constituents.

I remain committed to getting a balanced budget that requires the wealthy pay to their fair share and reduces the tax load shouldered by working families, seniors and small businesses in Lake County.”
